Robust Embedded Software, From Concept To Production

Design and implementation of reliable C and embedded software, focusing on efficient, self-documenting and maintainable code for resource-constrained hardware and environments.

A compact, meticulously wired embedded development setup centered around a small green microcontroller board connected to a larger custom PCB via neat, color-coded jumper wires. The boards sit on a smooth, light grey desktop beside an open laptop showing a blurred code editor on its screen, unreadable but glowing softly. Overhead neutral white studio lighting produces clear, even illumination with subtle reflections on solder pads and USB connectors. A softly out-of-focus background of orderly tools, antistatic mat, and neatly coiled cables keeps the focus on the hardware. Captured from a slightly elevated three-quarter angle with moderate depth of field, the image feels clean, organized, and professional, emphasizing thoughtful embedded software development in a realistic, photographic style.

I have both managed and worked alongside Jonathan (Jonnie) in my capacity as a team lead and later as a Solution’s Architect. Jonnie was instrumental in bringing our products to market and worked tirelessly to deliver excellence to our customers. His skillset and knowledge allowed meaningful exchanges to take place effectively, both internally and with external consultants, as well as with our global customers directly. Personally, I know Jonnie to be a pleasure to work with, always willing to help, even on issues that are outside the precise remit of his role.

All these contributions are captured in a research paper “Quantum-resistance in blockchain networks” that showcases Jonnie’s strengths.

I worked with Jonathan during my job in Quantinuum(formerly known as Cambridge Quantum Computing). We were working as peers within the cybersecurity team. We were developing quantum computer resistant cryptographic keys. We worked together on multiple projects during our time in Quantinuum.

Jonathan is always a good listener. He points out to possible solutions and shortcomings elegantly. He expresses his opinion constructively. Technically, he is very capable and overcomes problems easily. The way he steps back, takes his time to understand the problem and come up with a solution always inspired me. He is very structured and have a keen eye for detail and produces excellent documentation. I used his documentation multiple times, easy to follow and including summary and intrinsic details which myself and other team members find very handy. On multiple occasions his documentation became a go-to guide for us.

His attention to theory and the will to understand the basics of a given concept is unmatched. Hence, he was my handy team-mate to ask questions on how things work under the hood. He never shies away from explaining a concept in detail. He always has time for your questions. He responds to criticism constructively and I have never seen him raising his voice. Everybody in the team, including me, values his opinion. He is very sociable and a positive person.

Based on my time with him in Quantinuum, I would describe him as a capable, positive and an attentive team-mate.

We are delighted to share that Quantinuum has been awarded the best use of innovation award 2022 for its development of Quantum Origin.

We wish to acknowledge this achievement by my colleagues In the cybersecurity team at Quantinuum who have worked tirelessly to build a real product based on scientific breakthroughs.

There are many individuals we could mention in the teams headed up by Ben Merriman and Florian Curchod but we also want to acknowledge scientists Fernando Brandao and Simone Severini, who pioneered the original research in work on certifying that entropy derived from a quantum computer – using entanglement – could be practically implemented. Both Fernando and Simone are now at Amazon.

This achievement is also significant for the UK quantum computing sector as our product is now commercially available and in production as the tide turns towards keys that are generated non-deterministically.

Congratulations on being the very well-deserved recipients of a Quantinuum Achievement Award.

We say it often, but probably still not often enough: this team, and the work you do, are centrally important to the future not only of this company, but our entire industry. You are the pioneers, in the worldwide effort to see quantum computing achieve the commercial reality it has promised for decades.

I want to thank you for all your continued efforts. This award is truly well-deserved, and I hope it inspires you work together and achieve far greater heights in 2024 and beyond.

Once again, congratulations on this remarkable achievement. Your unwavering commitment and exceptional contributions have set a commendable standard for all of us.
